Medical Applications

NiTinol is used in a vast variety of applications in medical implants and instruments. Its excellent corrosion behaviour together with extraordinary properties open significant markets and opportunities. About 90% of all medical applications make use of the superelasticity, the remaining 10% use mainly the martensitic deformation characteristics.

Tissue Spreader

Superelastic component used mainly in open heart surgery. The instrument is laser-cut out of sheet and heat treated to very tight opening force requirements.

Coronary Probe

Martensitic instrument used in open heart surgery to measure the inner diameter of the coronary vessels. Main advantage is the pliability of the soft cone-shaped tip. The instrument is fully reuseable.

Laser-cut parts

A large number of different implants and instruments can be found in the market. Both, sheet and tubing can be structured with an advanced laser process.

Brain Spatula

Martenistic instrument used for neuro-surgery. The pliable spatula can be reused after steam sterilization.

The Superelasticity of NiTinol appears to be much more physiologic compared to e.g. stainless steel.
